Cardiac Science Corp (CSCX.O: Quote, Profile, Research) said it will recall about 12,200 of its faulty automated external defibrillators worldwide, as they may not be able to deliver therapy during a resuscitation attempt, leading to serious adverse events or death. The affected defibrillators were manufactured or serviced between Oct. 19, 2009 and Jan. 15, the medical device maker said in a statement. The company expects to take a related charge of $2.0 million to $3.0 million in the fourth quarter of 2009 and record cash expenditures related to replacement in the first half of 2010. Cardiac Science will replace the affected defibrillators at no charge to the customer and replacement shipments are expected to begin Feb. 15, it said. |
