In support of American Heart Month, our 5th Annual 5K Walk For Life &
Health Fair was held Sunday, February 24, 2008. In spite of the rain, over 180
student volunteers from around the region and members from the local community
arrived at 6:00am to erect tents and prepare tables for booth sponsors! At
8:45am An aerobic warm-up was provided by 30 For Life to the beat of The Clay
Colton Band, who performed live under the big tent until 1:00pm.
Standing under an umbrella this year, Mayor
"Bud" Lewis waited at the start line with a big smile, ready to send hundreds
of walkers on their way at 9:00am. KUSI spent three hours with us in the
relentless rain interviewing enthusiastic volunteers, walkers, and booth
sponsors about the reasons why they found it important to be there.
In Heritage Hall, the Cardiovascular
Disease Foundation provided cholesterol & glucose tests along with blood
pressure and body fat checks. The crowd of over 500 walkers and fair goers
enjoyed free food, hot coffee, health screenings, health advice and information
at the many booths provided on the lawn at Magee Park.
A big heart felt thank you to our sponsors,
donors, volunteers, and walkers for participating in this year's event.
